RYA Intermediate Powerboat
This two-day course builds on the foundation knowledge of the RYA Powerboat Handling Level 2 course and is suited to those who aim to drive larger more powerful powerboats.
The course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day, on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigation techniques, as well as covering cruising at planning speed and more advanced boat handling skills.
The majority of the course will be spent afloat and by the end of the course you should have the skills to confidently plan a short daytime coastal passage.
Course content will include
- Passage planning
- Boat preparation
- Boat handling
- Passage making
- Man overboard
Minimum standard
To book onto this course you must be at the minimum standard and age as laid out by the RYA outlined below.
Minimum Standard: Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 Powerboat Handling course with a coastal endorsement. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper is recommended. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC Operators certificate.
Minimum Age: 16yrs (under 18yr olds will only be accepted onto the course if they are accompanied by an adult on the same course).
If you would like to develop your powerboat driving skills but are not up to the required standard, in particular with the navigational theory, consider booking some powerboat tuition, which can be tailored to your requirements.
