RYA Powerboat Level 2

This practical two day course follows the RYA syllabus and is the perfect introduction to driving powerboats. It is also the minimum requirement for anybody looking to join the Marine Club.

The two-day introduction to powerboating will provide you with the background knowledge and basic skills necessary to drive powerboats safely in coastal waters. It will cover close quarter boat handling, before introducing driving at planning speed. The majority of the course will be spent afloat.

Course content includes:

  • Launch and recovery
  • Boat handling (at low and high speed)
  • Securing a buoy
  • Anchoring
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Man overboard
  • Basic theory including engine maintenance, chart work, collision regulations, tides and weather

Useful Information

Minimum Standard: No previous experience is necessary, but candidates must be of a sound physical condition

Minimum Age: 16yrs (under 18yr olds will only be accepted onto the course if they are accompanied by an adult on the same course)

International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

If you want to be able to drive boats abroard legally, you must hold the ICC. On successful completion of your course you can apply for an ICC via the RYA website. It is free for RYA members, otherwise there is a small charge for the issue of the ICC.
